The Lahore High Court has sought immediate reply from the University of Health Sciences and the HEC with respect to their non-issuance of roll number slips to a large number of students for the medical examination starting tomorrow (Tuesday), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The medical students on Monday challenged the education authorities’ step of not issuing them the roll number slips for tomorrow’s exam.
A large number of distraught students reached the Lahore High Court for seeking justice.
The court ordered the University of Health Sciences and the HEC to submit immediate reply. It directed Deputy Attorney General Asad Ali Bajwa to make a prompt contact with the Higher Education Centre in this regard.
Justice Shahid Kareem said since the medical exam was tomorrow, the court would hear this case today.
The court issued these directives while hearing the petition filed by the students of Bahawalpur Medical and Dental College.
Advocate Sardar Abdul Razzaq appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioners.
During hearing, Justice Kareem inquired of the advocate that it was Bahawalpur’s matter, how come he filed the petition in Lahore.
The lawyer replied that since the University of Health Sciences was in Lahore so they brought the matter to the principal seat.
The petitioners stated that the Bahawalpur Medical and Dental College was registered with the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC). As many as 100 students were given admissions in the college after the permission of the PMC. The medical and dental students have completed their studies of one-year semester. It’s their right to sit in the examination. It is against their basic right if they will not be allowed to take the exams.
The petitioners stated that their college fulfilled all the legal requirements of the PMC. But despite carrying out an inspection of the college, the UHC still did not affiliate it.
The UHS lawyer opposed the petition and told the court that the Bahawalpur college had also filed an application in Islamabad but it failed to obtain a stay order even from there. He said that the UHS sent the matter to the HEC.
But the petitioners’ lawyer requested the court to order the UHS to issue roll number slips to the students as exam was starting tomorrow.
