The Islamabad High Court has sent notice to the federal government while hearing the post-arrest bail application filed by PTI Senator Azam Swati, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The petition was heard by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq on Monday.
Advocate Babar Awan appeared before the court on behalf of Swati.
A trial court rejected the bail plea of the PTI senator on December 21.
Swati petitioned that he did not post the alleged tweets attributed to him. He said he did not intend to humiliate any institution. He said even after the completion of investigation, the prosecution still did not have any evidence against him.
The petitioner pleaded that he was 75-year-old and was a heart patient. He said that the case against him was based only on documentary allegations, and keeping him incarcerated was tantamount to punish him before trial.
The FIA registered a case against Swati for posting ‘highly objectionable’ tweets on Dec 26, 2022.
