South African pacers ripped Pakistan batting line-up apart before lunch on the first day of the opening Test match being played at Centuries on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Openers Shan Masood went back to pavilion after scoring 17 runs, Saim Ayub scored 14 runs, Babar Azam four and Saud Shakeel was out after scoring 14 runs.

At lunch, Pakistan lost four wickets while the score was 88. At the crease were Mohmmad Rizwan on 10 and Kamran Ghulam on 23.

For South Africa, Dane Paterson and Carbin Bosch claimed two wickets each.

Earlier, Pakistan was in to bat first on the opening day of first Test against South Africa after captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and invited the tourists to bat first.

Pakistan had already announced its team for the test to be played at the Super Sports Park, Centurion.

Medium pacer Muhammad Abbas has made a comeback after a gap of three years after impressing the selectors with his superb performance at the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy matches.

Abbas took 31 wickets in five matches to ensure his selection in the squad.

The last time the pacer had played the test was against West Indies in August 2021.

Team management has decided to play four fast bowlers in the match.

The team is: Shan Masood (captain), Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Muhammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, Amir Jamal, Naseem Shah, Khurram Shehzad and Muhammad Abbas.

Earlier, Pakistan lost the three-match T-20 international series to the hosts two-nil while later it managed to make up for the humiliation it suffered at the hands of Proteas by whitewashing the three-match one-day international series.

The emphatic win in the one-day matches has made team Pakistan much more confident that it can also give a tough time to the South Africans in the test series as well.

South Africa had already announced the playing XI for the first Test which was: Temba Bavuma (captain), Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne (wkt), Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson.
