The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted bail to Omni Group Chief Executive Officer Abdul Ghani Majeed in the fake bank accounts case.

The court granted bail to Majeed on health grounds and ordered him to submit a surety bond worth Rs100 million.

The Federal Investigation Agency had taken Omni Group’s CEO into custody on August 15, 2018, from outside the Supreme Court’s premises where he and his family appeared before the bench headed by former chief justice Mian Saqib Nisar. The former CJ was hearing a suo moto case regarding alleged money laundering of Rs35 billion through fake bank accounts.

Later, the names of his four family members besides his own were placed on the Exit Control List on the orders of the Supreme Court.

PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur, former Pakistan Stock Exchange chairman Hussain Lawai and Summit Bank Senior Vice-President Taha Raza are among those being investigated.
