Some ‘unidentified elements’ clashed with security guards of the University of Central Punjab (UCP) in Lahore on Tuesday during the students' protest against the varsity administration to press their demands for online exams instead of on-campus papers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The students blocked the service road in front of the university and vowed to continue the protest till the demand is met. The protesters demanded from the university administration to take online exams.

Police have also reached the protest site and negotiations were underway with the students

According to a private TV channel, the protest turned violent when “irrelevant elements” attempted to vandalize the front gate of the university at the time when university guards went inside amid the presence of a large number of protesting students. The intruders threw stones inside the university.

Earlier, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood dropped a hint about conducting online exams this year keeping in view the situation resulting from the pandemic.

The students have been protesting across the country as part of their effort to convince the government to hold online exams this year and save their academic year.

Various universities have allowed online exams after the protests in recent weeks.
