West Indies was bowled out for 244 runs in their second innings on the second day of the second Test against Pakistan in Multan on Sunday, giving the hosts the target of 254 runs to achieve, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Noman Ali and Sajid Khan took four wickets each, while Ibrar Ahmad and Kashif Ali grabbed one wicket each. Brathwaite remained outstanding with 52 runs to his credit.
According to the AFP, the West Indies batted with guts and aggression against Pakistan on Sunday to set the hosts a target of 254. Skipper and opener Kraigg Brathwaite led the fight for the visitors on day two with a gritty 52.
The last four wickets added an invaluable 99 runs before the tourists were dismissed for 244 in their second innings at tea.
The West Indies are chasing a series-levelling win on a weary Multan Stadium pitch, having lost the first Test by 127 runs at the same venue.
Left-arm spinner Noman Ali finished with 4-80 -- 10 wickets in the match -- while partner Sajid Khan took 4-76, six in the match.
The West Indies were 129-5 at lunch when Noman dismissed Alick Athanaze for six, before the tourists put up a fight.
Tevin Imlach scored 35 and Kevin Sinclair 28 to boost their team's lead during a stubborn stand of 51 for the seventh wicket, before Sajid accounted for Sinclair and Gudakesh Motie for 18.
Pacer Kashif Ali had Imlach but the last pair of Jomel Warrican and Kemar Roach took the total past 240, before Sajid had Warrican caught for 18.
Earlier, Brathwaite led the way with two sixes and four boundaries in his 31st Test half-century.
Debutant Amir Jangoo also batted well for his 30 with three boundaries, before Sajid had him caught in the slips by Salman Agha.
Kavem Hodge was stumped by Rizwan off Noman for 15 as the West Indies slumped from 92-1 to 129-5.
Earlier 24News TV channel reported that the second Test between Pakistan and West Indies had entered an interesting phase as the visitors had secured a nine-run lead over Pakistan after sending the entire Pakistani team to the pavilion at 154 runs.
Prior to that, the visitors made a strong comeback and scored 163 runs after losing eight wickets in quick succession, leading to fears that they might be unable to cross the 50-run mark.
West Indies spinners Jomel Warrican and Gudakesh Motie dismantled Pakistan's batting lineup, bundling the hosts out for a modest 154 runs on the opening day of the second Test at Multan on Saturday.
Warrican led the charge with remarkable bowling figures of 4-43, while Motie and Kemar Roach contributed with three and two wickets, respectively. Their efforts gave the visitors a slender nine-run lead as the opening day concluded.
Pakistan’s Sajid Khan remained unbeaten after scoring 16 runs from 20 balls, with the help of two boundaries.
Pakistan were struggling on 70-4 when the umpires called for Tea with Saud Shakeel (14*) and Mohammad Rizwan (13*) on the crease. The hosts took a cautious start before the West Indies bowler took three quick wickets to dismantle Pakistan’s top-order.
Mohammad Hurraira fell prey to Roach after scoring nine runs, while Babar Azam (1) was castled by Motie in the next over. Roach bowled skipper Shan Masood, who was playing on 15, to leave Pakistan reeling on 25-3.
Kamran Ghulam scored a fighting 16 before he gave an easy catch to Alick Athanaze off Motie’s bowling. Rizwan joined Saud and they played cautiously to ensure no further damage in the second session of the day.
Earlier, Pakistan bundled West Indies for 163 runs in the first session, courtesy of Noman Ali‘s six-wicket haul. Pacer Kashif Ali provided the first breakthrough to Pakistan as he removed Mikyle Louis (4) to claim his first Test wicket before Sajid Khan dismissed West Indies’ debutant Amir Jangoo in the next over.
Kavem Hodge held on to one end, while Pakistan spinners wreaked havoc on the other end, with Noman Ali taking a hat-trick to leave West Indies struggling on 38-7. Hodge scored 21 runs from 38 balls before he fell victim to Abrar Ahmed.
With the scoreboard reading 54-8, Pakistan looked in control, however, West Indies tailenders helped the team recover as they scored 109 for the last two wickets.
Gudakesh Motie and Kemar Roach (25) stitched a 41-run stand for the ninth wicket to take the team’s total to 95 before Noman struck to take his fifth scalp.
Motie was joined by Jomel Warrican and together they added a crucial 68 runs for the last wicket, much to the frustration of the home team.
Noman finally ended the partnership and West Indies’ innings with the wicket of Motie, who scored 55 runs from 87 balls. Warrican remained unbeaten after scoring 36 off 40.
For Pakistan, Noman took six, while Sajid Khan claimed two wickets. Abrar Ahmed and Kashif Ali contributed with one wicket each.
Earlier, Noman Ali took a hat trick as Pakistan dismissed the West Indies for 163 Saturday in the second Test in Multan, but the visitors replied strongly to have the home side at 70-4 at tea.
At the break, Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan were at the crease on 14 and 13 respectively, with Pakistan trailing by 93 runs.
The Multan Stadium pitch helped spin bowling on the opening day, with the two sessions seeing 14 wickets falling.
Noman took 6-41 -- becoming the first Pakistan spinner to register a hat trick -- as the tourists were bowled out in 41.1 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat.
West Indian fast bowler Kemar Roach and spinner Gudakesh Motie took two wickets apiece in reply.
It could have been worse for the tourists had Motie, who top scored with a career-best 55, not added an invaluable 68 runs for the last wicket with Jomel Warrican, who scored 36 not out with two sixes.
Motie also added 41 for the ninth wicket with Roach (25) to delay the lunch break before Noman grabbed the last two wickets for his eighth five-wicket haul in an innings.
Pakistan employed the same spin-heavy tactics which earned them a 127-run win in the first Test -- also in Multan -- with the ball turning from the first over.
Noman came on to bowl as the first change, and trapped West Indian skipper Kraigg Brathwaite leg before for nine to spark a collapse which saw the tourists slump from 32-2 to 38-8 off just 14 deliveries.
Noman dismissed Justin Greaves for one, then Tevin Imlach and Kevin Sinclair off successive deliveries to become the fifth Pakistan bowler to grab a Test hat trick.
Fast bowlers Wasim Akram (two hat tricks against Sri Lanka in 1999), Abdul Razzaq (against Sri Lanka in 2000), Mohammad Sami (also against Sri Lanka, in 2002), and Naseem Shah (against Bangladesh in 2020) achieved the feat for Pakistan previously.
Off-spinner Sajid dismissed debutant Amir Jangoo and Alick Athanaze -- both without scoring -- while Abrar Ahmed accounted for Kavem Hodge.
Debutant pacer Kashif Ali had Mikyle Louis for four in his first over.
In reply, Roach dismissed openers Muhammad Hurraira (nine) and Shan Masood (15), while Motie sent back Babar Azam (one) and Kamran Ghulam (16).
