The notification banning the issuance of passports to asylum seekers abroad has been challenged in the Supreme Court, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Tuesday.
According to the channel, the petition against the ban on the issuance of passports was filed by advocate Saim Chaudhry, who made the federal government and the director general of the Immigration and Passport Office (DGI&P) the parties.
In the petition, the SC is requested to declare the government's June 5 policy regarding the ban on the issuance of passports to asylum seekers abroad null and void and to issue an order to stop the implementation of the policy.
It is stated in the petition that the notification issued by the government is against the fundamental rights of Pakistani citizens, and the reasons for the ban were also not given in the notification.
The petition also declared a government notification against Articles 10, 10A, and 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
It is pertinent to mention here that, keeping in view national security, the Ministry of Interior has decided not to issue passports to Pakistanis who had sought asylum in other countries.
According to a notification issued by the ministry in Islamabad on June 5, 2024, all such Pakistani nationals who seek asylum on any grounds in other countries will not be able to get Pakistani passports.
According to sources, the passports of all such Pakistanis will be cancelled, and they will also not be renewed.
