Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Monday visited the residence of a youth, who was killed by a stray kite string in Faisalabad.
Asif Ashfaq was on his way on a bike when a stray kite string slit his throat on Saturday.
The victim’s mother broke into tears as the CM and her father expressed condolence. The bereaved siblings urged them to take action to avert such incidents.
Maryam vows to step up efforts to enforce the ban on kite-flying and take stern action against the violators.
She said: “I am a mother too and understand the feeling and pain of a mother. Kite flying has become a gory game.
"Parents should fulfil the responsibility of preventing their children from flying kites.
“Strict legal action will be taken against the people involved in this deadly sport.”
Maryam and Nawaz also prayed the Almighty may rest the departed soul in eternal peace.
Maryam Aurangzeb, Parvez Rasheed, PML-N MPAs, Punjab chief secretary and IGP also accompanied them.
