Xiaomi is preparing to design its own mobile processor for its upcoming smartphones in order to minimize its reliance on Qualcomm and MediaTek.
According to Bloomberg, the mass production of the self-designed mobile processor is expected to begin in 2025. This move comes after Chinese officials have asked local firms to minimize their reliance on foreign companies, it reported

The company moved into making a self-designed chipset because of sanctions by the first Trump administration, which was later revoked.
In October, Xiaomi Chief Executive Officer Lei Jun said that the company will invest 30 billion yuan ($4.1 billion) in research and development in 2025. The research will focus on artificial intelligence, chips and operating system improvements.
