Apple Vice President Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak has confirmed that the company is going to replace the Lightning port with USB-C in order to comply with European Union (EU) rules.
He stated that Apple supported the decision of the European Union to mandate a common charger for consumer phones. He said, "We’ll have to comply."
The standard charger directive, which mandates that Apple and other electronics manufacturers utilise USB-C by the end of 2024, has received final approval from the European Union.
The majority of consumer devices, including tablets, smartphones, keyboards, mouse, gaming consoles, headphones, and more, will be required to include USB-C connectors under the proposed rule.
The change is intended to increase user convenience and considerably decrease electronic waste.
According to a recent report, the upcoming iPhone 15 range will use USB-C charging and Apple will continue to offer four models, each with more features than the iPhone 14 family.
