In a startling revelation, it has come to light that despite 18 years of privatization, the federal government has been providing the highest subsidy to K-Electric, a private electricity company, compared to state-owned electricity providers.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the Power Division's data disclosed a significant disparity, with K-Electric receiving a subsidy of 169 billion rupees more than all other public electricity companies combined.
Among the seven distribution companies, only three are not receiving any subsidy from the Federation.
Notably, MAPCO is allocated Rs43 billion, HESCO Rs35 billion, KESCO Rs22 billion, GAPCO Rs18 billion, PESCO Rs18 billion, SEPCO Rs13 billion, and TESCO Rs9 billion in subsidies from the federal government.
However, IESCO, LESCO, and FESCO are conspicuously absent from the list of entities receiving federal subsidies, as confirmed by the Power Division.
