Six gunmen barged into the bank, beat guard, held hostage staff and made off Rs8.7 million, police officials said.
An eyewitness said as the armed person forced their way into the bank, he alerted the police but the outlaws ran away after committing the crime before police made it to the spot. They threw the guard's gun before fleeing.
SSP Junaid Ahmed Shaikh reached the bank and told the media that the lawmen were piecing together evidence after registering a case.
The SSP said the security guard did not put up much resistance while CCTV camera footage was being obtained to ascertain the escape route of the criminals.
The bank staff’s statements have been recorded, he said, adding that the probe will point out if the bank followed SOPs or not and the staff will be grilled if needed.
Sindh Interior Minister Haris Nawaz took notice and asked the police to solve the case at the earliest.
