Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday handed Arshad Nadeem, who won silver medal in World Athletics Javelin Throw championship, cheque of Rs3 million, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
On the athlete’s request, the chief minister also announced provision of funds for Mian Channu Stadium.
Patting on Arshad’s back, he said to him, “Well done! We are proud of you.”
“You have made us proud Arshad,” he said, adding, “Despite limited resources, Pakistani sportsmen have proved that they have a potential.”
Speaking on the occasion, the javelin thrower said winning a silver medal by a narrow margin was a memorable moment for him. “However, my target is to win gold medal for Pakistan,” he said.
He thanked the Punjab chief minister and the government of Punjab for encouraging him.
Provincial ministers Dr. Javed Akram, Amir Mir, Azfar Ali Nasir, Mansoor Qadir, Adviser to the CM Wahab Riaz, secretary sports, secretary information, DG sports and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion.
