The Election Commission has announced the schedule for local body by-elections in 21 districts for 886 vacant local body seats of Sindh, including all seven districts of Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The by-elections, set to take place on November 5, will fill vacant seats in Municipal Corporation Town Committees and District Councils.

The by-elections come in the wake of vacancies created by Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Deputy Salman Abdullah Murad in Karachi. Elections will be held for these vacant seats, along with others in the region.

The announcement by the Election Commission underscores its commitment to ensuring representation in local bodies across Sindh.

The upcoming by-elections present an opportunity for citizens to participate in the democratic process and elect their local representatives.

Direct elections will be held for 74 seats, while the remaining 812 seats will be filled through specific elections. Among these, there are 9 seats for Union Council (UC) Chairmen and 16 for UC Vice Chairmen. Additionally, 8 District Councilors and 41 Ward Councilors will be elected.

The by-elections also aim to ensure representation for minorities, women, youth, and the Khawaja Sarai community. There are 310 vacancies for minorities and 176 for women. Out of 161 seats allocated for youth, 119 are currently vacant. The Khawaja Sarai community has 16 vacant seats.

Furthermore, the agricultural and labor sectors will also see representation, with elections being held for 16 vacant seats of Kisan Mazdoor (farmer-laborer). This comprehensive electoral exercise underscores the commitment to ensuring diverse and inclusive representation in Sindh’s local bodies.
