A policeman was martyred while two proclaimed offenders were killed and three were arrested during a police encounter in Rahna Sadaat in the limits of Kallar Kahar police station in Chakwal, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to police sources, martyred policeman Tahir Shah belongs to Kursal and he was posted in Elite Force.
The alleged police encounter took place during a raid to arrest the proclaimed offenders, the sources said.
The police teams from Chakwal and Kallar Kahar were present on the spot while the staff of patrolling post Bhawan was also present and Rescue 1122 has been dispatched.
Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar paid tribute to the eternal sacrifice of martyred constable Tahir Shah.
In his message, IG said Elite constable Tahir Shah laid down his life fighting robbers in the line of duty and Punjab police will never forget the sacrifice of Constable Tahir Shah.
Dr. Usman Anwar expressed condolences, heartfelt sympathy and regret to the family of the martyr.
The support of the family of the martyr is the responsibility of the Punjab police and full cooperation will be given, IG Punjab said.
However, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar sought a report of the incident from RPO Rawalpindi.
The spokesperson of Punjab police said that constable Tahir was shot in the stomach and arm by the firing of the accused, he died in the hospital during the treatment, spokesman of Punjab Police.
Two bandits were killed and three arrested in police retaliatory firing, Punjab police spokesperson confirmed.
