Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has told the government that the active tax filers numbers have reached 6 million in the country which is increasing gradually, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
FBR chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial was briefing Senate Standing Committee on Finance here on Wednesday. He said that FBR was taking all out measures to bring 2 million retailers into the tax net. The FBR has sent messages to 15 lakh non-filers.
On the occasion, Rashid Mahmood Langrial admitted that FBR has not updated audit system in the country. Moreover, FBR was also facing shortage of auditors. FBR is considering appointment of auditors and inspectors on contract from ACCA, ACMA and Chartered Accountants firms. He said over 400 auditors’ appointment is on the card. FBR chairman said the last date for submission of tax returns is 30 September and he made clear that there will be no extension in the date of submission of income tax returns.
Rashid Langrial made it clear that mini budget is not on the cards. He said Prime Minister has approved FBR summary to impose restrictions on non-filers which will be implemented in the coming days. FBR chief admitted that wholesale markets are creating problem for the authority.
