A director of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) resigned from his position on Monday due to his differences with the federal health secretary over use of funds.

According to reports, PIMS Director Raja Shafique Sarwar had differences with the Health Ministry over diversion of the budget allocated for general category patients to coronavirus patients. PIMS Joint Executive Director Dr Minhaj has been given the additional charge of Raja Shafique Sarwar’s office.

According to sources, the health secretary had directed the PIMS management to add 100 beds to the hospital for coronavirus patients. However, the PIMS management was of the view that burden of the coronavirus patients, who should be treated at other hospitals, was being shifted to PIMS.
