Rana Afzaal Hussain, a seasoned politician and the elder brother of Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain passed away on Monday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He was a member of the Punjab Assembly from PP-139 Sheikhupura-IV and had previously served two terms as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) under the banner of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Rana Afzaal Hussain, who hailed from a prominent political family in Sheikhupura, was the father of MNA Rana Ahmad Atiq Anwar. He was elected as an MPA in the recent by-election in PP-139 Sheikhupura.
He was born on 2 July 1947. Earlier in his career, he was elected to the National Assembly in a by-election in 2008 from NA-131 (Sheikhupura-I) and was re-elected in the 2013 general election from the same constituency.
He had a long political career and was a significant figure in his constituency. His father, Rana Anwar, and the family have deep roots in Muhallah Sheikhan, Old Narang Road, Muridke, in the Sheikhupura district.
Rana Afzaal Hussain also served as the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee-I and was a member of the Housing, Urban Development, and Public Health Engineering committees in the Punjab Assembly.
President, PM express grief
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have expressed deep grief over the demise of Member Punjab Assembly Rana Afzaal Hussain, the elder brother of Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain.
In a statement issued on Monday, President Zardari prayed for higher status in heaven for the departed soul and commiserated with Rana Tanveer Hussain and other family members.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif telephoned Rana Tanveer Hussain to condole with him over the sad demise of his brother. Commending the services of Rana Afzaal Hussain to the public, the Prime Minister said he will always be remembered in good words.
It is also pertinent to mention that the late Rana Afzaal Hussain is the father of Member National Assembly Rana Ahmad Atteeq Anwar.
