Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has offered two Senate seats from Sindh to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) if they agree to vote for Yousuf Raza Gillani in National Assembly, reported 24News HD TV channel Saturday.
The PPP continues to political manoeuvring for the Senate polls and in line of these efforts, a PPP delegation comprising Nasir Hussain Shah, Murtaza Wahab, Sharjeel Memon and Waqar Mehdi visited MQM-P headquarters in Bahadurabad, where they were welcomed by the party’s senior deputy convener Amir Khan.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the upcoming Senate elections as the PPP leaders sought MQM-P support for their candidates.
Nasir Hussain Shah congratulated Faisal Sabazwari over the possibilities of him becoming a Senator in the upcoming polls from the province. The two sides also discussed matters pertaining to COVID-19 vaccination and other virus-related measures besides mainly focusing on the elections of the upper house of the Parliament. The MQM-P and PPP also shared concerns over the census process in the province with each other.
Talking to the media, PPP leaders said they are ready to withdraw their candidates against the two seats where the MQM-P is contesting the Senate polls from the Sindh province.
However, they wanted MQM’s support for their candidate from the national assembly Yousaf Raza Gillani.
Sharjeel Memon said if MQM agreed to their proposal, both the MQM candidates would elect unopposed.
He said they talked in a cordial manner and hoped that they would reach the deal.
MQM’s leader Sbazwari said the PP leaders have come up with the suggestion very late and it would have been good if they can deal the Senate polls in line with Punjab.
In Punjab, all the Senate candidates elected unopposed due to the efforts of Speaker Punjab Assembly Pervaiz Elahi.
Sabazwari said PML-N and PTI held a closed-door meeting and reached a consensus and if Sindh adopted the same model then it would be beneficial to all.
