Four colliers were killed when unidentified armed men opened fire on their camp in the coalmines area of Khost in Harnai district on Monday, triggering furious protests by the locals, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Three people were also injured in the attack as the armed assailants also torched 11 coalmines.
Levies sources said the dead were identified as Noor Khan, Abdul Hannan, Syed Hannan and Abdul Rehman whereas the injured were named as Sher Zaman, Syed Akram and Baz Muhammad.
The district administration officials reached the crime scene after getting information. The dead and injured were being shifted to Khost, added the Levies sources.
Furious local residents staged a protest against the attack and demanded protection and security.
The latest attack came a day after five people were killed and several others wounded in an explosion inside the Rakhni market in Balochistan’s Barkhan.
According to Barkhan Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Khoso, the blast occurred when an improvised explosive device (IED), planted on a motorcycle, exploded.
