Leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Monday met Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf under the leadership of Malik Amir Dogar to discuss matters related to the acceptance of resignations of former members of the National Assembly of PTI, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The PTI delegation requested that the speaker withdraw the move to accept the resignation.
However, Speaker National Assembly said he had accepted the resignation under the law and constitution and the rules and regulations of the National Assembly.
He said he sent repeated letters but no member of the PTI appeared before him.
He said he started accepting the resignations only after a delegation led by Asad Qaiser and Aamir Dogar met him for the same.
He said the delegation led by former Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser requested him to accept the resignations.
“I am bound by the Constitution, the law and the rules and regulations of the National Assembly, said Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf.
He asked the PTI members if they did not resign of their own will.
He said he only accepted the resignations on the insistence of the delegation led by former speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser.
He said he would discuss the matter with the legal team at the request of the PTI members and would inform them accordingly.
