Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Sher Afzal Marwat has expressed skepticism about Maryam Nawaz's surprise visit at a police station in Lahore, considering it a political stunt, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Talking to media outside Adiala Jail, Sher Afzal criticized the Punjab Police, alleging that it had taken the entire province hostage and suggesting a lack of rule of law in Punjab.
Additionally, Sher Afzal Marwat advocated for the reform in the Punjab Police, describing it as a centuries-old culture that needed overhauling.
He declared the KPK (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) police better than the Punjab police in performance.
To a question, why, despite being in power in Punjab, Usman Buzdar could not bring about a change in the police culture.
Sher Afzal Marwat replied that attempts were made but people traditionally fear the police. "Changing the Inspector General (IG) alone will not be sufficient," he said adding that there is need for a systemic change.
Marwat also called for a system of checks and balances, advocating for the punishment of errant police officers.
Additionally, he suggested to bring young officers into the police force as a potential solution to address the existing issues.
