LHC issued special instructions for smooth flow of traffic in Lahore
The Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday ordered that emergency measures should be taken to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
LHC Justice Shahid Karim heard identical petitions filed for smog remediation and directed that the traffic in the city should not be stopped at any cost. “Special barriers, to divert the traffic to substitute routes, should be installed to avoid traffic jams, the court ordered.
The court also ordered the installation of emergency call number boards in the traffic jam areas. “Special instruction has also been issued to the city administration to hang boards inscribed with specific call numbers,” the court remarked adding that by installing such boards, citizens will be able to call the traffic wardens. This will enable the traffic warden to take immediate action to remove the bottleneck in the traffic flow.
Earlier, Justice Shahid Karim heard the requests of Haroon Farooq and others.
Deputy Attorney General Asad Ali Bajwa on behalf of the federal government and Additional Chief Secretary Shahryar Sultan on behalf of the Punjab government and other relevant officers appeared before the court. Asad Ali Bajwa presented the report of Chinese experts on controlling smog in Lahore. Justice Shahid Karim remarked that smog was controlled in Beijing because the industries were shifted out of the city.
The member environmental commission, Henna Hafeez Ullah Ishaq, and Syed Kamal Haider submitted a report based on the measures taken following the court directions. Justice Shahid Karim remarked that everyone is doing the work to remedy the smog.
The court against a request remarked that the restaurants do not have their own parking, causing traffic jams.
Member Environmental Commission Syed Kamal Haider also informed City 42 about the measures taken by the commission following the court order.
The court also directed to present the amended rules of the environment department to the provincial cabinet. The court adjourned the further hearing of the case till February 3.
