Amid public ire over inflated power bills, the federal government is working on an emergency plan to slash free electricity facility for all government and semi-government departments, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to a piece of inside information, the Ministry of Energy is planning to scrap free electricity facilities to bureaucrats, judges, and parliamentarians.

The ministry is also weighing the withdrawal of the free petrol facility to the government departments.

Sources claim there is a proposal to reduce Maximum Demand Indicator (MDI) charges for factories aimed at lowering operational costs for the manufacturing sector.

The energy ministry has also decided to review the performance of regulatory bodies such as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to ensure efficiency and accountability.
