The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday heard a miscellaneous petition seeking an order against the closure of social media app X by the government, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
LHC’s Justice Asim Hafeez, after the initial hearing of the petition, issued notices to the concerned parties and sought their replies till April 2, 2024.
During the hearing, advocate Huzaifa Naeem told Justice Asim Hafeez that the government had closed access to the social media app X for the public which was against the law.
Justice Asim Hafeez recommended the applicant that he should use VPN for getting access to X as per the advice of a minister.
The applicant told the LHC judge that VPN use was not a right way to access X. He further contended that if police give an advice to citizens not to use a road because of the presence of dacoits, it will not be a right advice by the police.
The applicant pleaded to the court that closures of X should be declared illegal and the court should direct the government to ensure public access to social media app.
After hearing the arguments of the applicant, Justice Asim Hafeez put off the case hearing till April 2, 2024.
