Imprisoned PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz were released from Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail on parole for five days to enable them to attend the funeral of late Begum Shamim Akhtar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
The two opposition leaders were released at 4:15pm as a convoy comprising eight vehicles headed by PML-N Deputy Secretary-General Attaullah Tarar reached the prison.
However, only one vehicle to be used by Shehbaz was allowed to enter the premises after checking with the rest stopped at the main entrance.
Later, Badar Shahbaz, who looks after the social media affairs for the party president, shared a video in which Shehbaz is seen reaching his Model Town residence.
Earlier, the Home Department issued a notification which mentioned that they would be released on November 27 (today) for a five-day period till December 1.
And in London, the funeral prayers for late Begum Shamim – the mother of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz – would be offered at the Regent’s Park mosque in which only close family members and friends are going to participate because of the coronavirus.
Later, the body would be transported to Lahore through a flight that is scheduled to reach tomorrow (Saturday) morning. The funeral prayers and burial are also planned for the same day after Zuhr prayers.
In this connection, preparations are being finalised at the Sharif Medical Complex where the funeral prayers would be offered in an open ground.
Besides marking the space for the prayers, barriers have been installed at the space reserved for the casket, family members and friends.
A large number of political and social personalities will participate in the funeral prayers. However, general public is not allowed to take part in the gathering.
