A working group has been established to implement the artificial rain project in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The working group also includes representatives of military institutions affiliated with the relevant departments.
This was decided in a meeting presided over by the Punjab Chief Secretary on Monday. The meeting reviewed the progress on the projects of artificial rain and the installation of smog reduction tower in Lahore.
The officials of the Environment Protection Department gave a briefing on the method of cloud seeding and cloud ionization to bring artificial rain during the meeting.
The briefing said that the first trial for cloud seeding is expected in four to six weeks. Cloud seeding through chemical process using aircraft is highly dependent on weather conditions.
The meeting was also informed that an MoU with a Dubai-based company for cloud ionization is in the final stages.
During the briefing, it was further said that in the next six weeks, cloud ionization would be tested at selected locations in Lahore through five systems provided by the Dubai company.
A team of experts will go to China next month for the installation of smog reduction towers in Lahore. A monitoring cell is being established in the Environment Protection Department to monitor the projects.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that the Punjab government is taking practical steps to prevent smog. He said joint efforts are needed to control environmental pollution. He said that the cooperation of federal and military agencies in efforts to prevent smog in Punjab is commendable.
