Residents of Karachi’s Nasla Tower are busy shifting their belongings as the deadline given by the Supreme Court (SC) to them for vacating their flats housed in the tower will end today (Wednesday), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Yesterday (Tuesday) the concerned departments had severed gas, water and electricity connections to the flats.
Meanwhile, the commissioner Karachi has placed an ad in newspapers, in which the companies interested in razing the 15-storey structure have been asked to contact within three days.
The ad reads that the companies, having an expertise in demolishing buildings with a blast, will be preferred.
Meanwhile, talking to the media, Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chief Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that his party would become the voice of residents of the Tower. “Don’t turn the Nasla Tower into a Lal Masjid; don’t mistake the silence of its residents as a sign of their weakness,” he warned.
“Return the money to those affected by this scam. And then you are free to do whatever you want to do to this building,” he said.
The Supreme Court had two days ago, October 25 (Monday), ordered the demolition of the Nasla Tower within a week.
Issuing the demolition orders, the apex court showed its annoyance over the non-compliance of its earlier order. The court asked the authorities to tell as to why the tower had not been bulldozed as yet. The court firmly held that no favour would be granted in this regard.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmad asked the Karachi commissioner to get ready to remove the debris of the soon-to-be-demolished building. He also directed him to pay compensation to the residents of the tower.
