Pakistan’s first-ever Cannes Film Festival-winning movie “Joyland” is all set to be released and screened in the cinemas of Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Pakistani Urdu drama film was released on 23rd May, 2022 for the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
The award-winning movie casts senior and renowned actors like Salman Peer, Sania Saeed, Sarwat Gillani and Sohail Sameer. It also casts new actors like Alina Khan who is playing the lead role, Rasti Farooq and Ali Junejo.
The movie is the directorial debut of Saim Sadiq and was produced by the legendary movie maker Sarmad Sultan Khoosat.
The story of the film revolves around a middle-class family in Lahore whose head is a wheelchair-bound yet severe patriarch ruling over his two sons and their wives. He demands grandchildren from his sons but things change tremendously when his younger son falls in love with a transgender dancer who he dances in the background with.
The movie also got a nomination at the Oscars as well as two at the Cannes Film Festival where it won a Jury Award and a Queer Palm award in the Cannes Film Festival.
“Joyland” will hit the silver screens on November 18 next month.
