The government has received record Rs222 billion from the masses under the head of petroleum levy in the first quarter of the ongoing fiscal year, 2023-24 against the target of Rs869 billion set for this year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Sources told 24News that during the three-month period, between July and September 2022, the government had received over Rs47 billion from the consumers, and Rs580 billion in the entire year.
Thus Rs222 billion received this year represented an increase by 368 per cent, they said.
They informed that presently consumers were being charged Rs60 and Rs55 in levy for one liter of petrol and one liter of high speed diesel, respectively.
