Pakistan men’s team has hammered India 3-0 in a volleyball match to claim fifth place at the ongoing 19th Asian Games being played in Hangzhou, China, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Pakistan defeated India handily after controlling the game's events the entire time and winning by scores of 25-21, 25-20, and 25-23 over their longtime foes in straight sets.
This is the first time in 33 years that the Pakistani side has secured a spot in the top five since 1990.
Prior to this, Qatar defeated Pakistan in a dramatic quarterfinal game. The 51st-ranked Pakistani team and the 17th-ranked Qatari team squared off in the match. Pakistan put up a great effort right away in the first set of the encounter.
Pakistan had a five-point lead at one point, but Qatar produced an incredible comeback, overturning 20-15 and 24-22 deficits to steal the opening set from Pakistan. Qatar, though, was unable to keep up its pace.
Pakistan overpowered Qatar in the third set from the outset. Unfortunately for Pakistan, Qatar left little chance for a comeback in the fourth set and won by a decisive margin. Qatar defeated Pakistan with final scores of 24-26, 19-25, 25-23, and 18-25.
It may be mentioned that the Men in Green defeated South Korea 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, and 25-21) to get to the quarterfinal.
