Anti-Corruption Department has registered a case of corruption worth millions of rupees against 12 patwaris of Irrigation Department in Haripur and arrested six of them on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to report, out of 12 Patwaris, six were arrested while raids were being conducted to arrest others. The accused patwaris colluded and looted Rs17 million.
Patwaris of the Haripur Irrigation Department were used to collect irrigation tax twice a year from farmers and cultivators through fake receipts.
An inquiry against the patwaris was initiated after the auditor general’s report came out.
Among the patwaris who embezzled government money in Haripur are Muhammad Nisar, Mohammad Nawaz, Sarwar Sultan, Niaz Ahmed, Ghulam Farooq, Muhammad Farooq, Abdul Waheed, Sajid Salim, Riasat Khan, Haroon Patwari, Nadeem Ahmed and Abdul Aziz are included.
