The federal government has decided to try President Arif Alvi, ex-PM Imran Khan, former NA deputy speaker Qasim Suri and Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema under Article 6 of the Constitution.

According to sources, their statements and records of the assemblies are being collected. They will face a high treason case after the federal cabinet give go-ahead, the insiders said, adding that the step will be taken after due course of discourse with legal experts.

The matter would be taken up at the federal cabinet meeting as soon as PM Shehbaz Sharif returns homeland. The statements of the four and the record of the assemblies began to be collected.

President Avli and the former deputy speaker have been accused of violating the Constitution at the behest of ex-PM Imran during the proceedings of the no-trust motion earlier this month.

The country’s top court set aside the NA deputy speaker ruling to dismiss the no-trust resolution against Imran and the subsequent dissolution of the lower house of parliament by President Arif Alvi on the premier’s advice.

Punjab Governor Cheema is allegedly subverting the constitutional process in the provincial legislator as he refused to endorse the election of Hamza Shehbaz.
