Following the international demand and seeing a prospect for generation of revenue, the Punjab government Saturday set up Pakistan’s first-ever official ‘Donkey Farm’ in Okara.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the farm was set up by the Buzdar government for the breeding of donkeys at Bahadur Nagar, an official land in the Okara district.
High breed donkeys would be bred on the farm as demand for donkeys from China and other western countries has been increased and the government has decided to earn foreign exchange by exporting donkeys.
On the farm, a high breed of donkeys of different countries including American Donkeys would also be raised for commercial use.
Donkey's milk and leather are also used by China and other countries in the manufacture of cosmetic products and medicines, which are very expensive to sell.
Punjab government’s Bahadur Nagar Farm was established in British Raj in 1916 covering an area of 3,050 acres piece of land and nowadays it was being used by the livestock department for raising valuable animals like cattle, sheep, cows and horses here.
