Lahore CCPO (Capital City Police Officer) Umer Sheikh has landed himself in troubled waters as corridors of power including judiciary and province’s top executive is unhappy with the way CCPO Umer Sheikh has been performing his duty amid the alarming rise of crime rate in the metropolis, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar’s Principal Secretary summoned the CCPO Lahore Umer Sheikh a few days ago to CM house and issued him warning after failing to control crime rate in the city despite his deployment taking three months, the TV channel reported quoting its sources.
CCPO failed to meet its targets and its inability to contain the criminals in three months at the time when the government also came under criticism on his appointment, the TV channel reported.
On the other hand, Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Alia Nadeem hearing a bail case of murder accused named Arsalan summoned CCPO Lahore urgently in person on Monday. The provincial apex court Justice expressed his displeasure over non-appearance of Lahore CCPO before the court.
Justice Alia Nadeem asked SSP Lahore about CCPO Lahore, to which the latter replied, he himself presented the report from CCPO Lahore. Justice Alia Nadeem remarked whenever CCPO Lahore was called, he always remained busy in meetings with CM.
On the other hand, LHC CJ Qasim Khan also summoned CCPO Lahore, SP Cantt and Lahore Deputy Commissioner Mudassar Riaz in the next hearing of harassment of the petitioner in the property seizure case, the TV channel reported.
LHC Chief Justice remarked Police have not fulfilled its responsibility and made only statements about the courts. “Accused persons have the right to bail when there are flaws in the case investigation,” he added.
The TV channel reported LHC CJ remarked it was told everything will be alright in three months but nothing has been done amid increase in crime rate.
It is pertinent to note that, the controversy generated by the posting of Umer Sheikh Lahore CCPO (Capital City Police Officer) ended with the removal of Punjab IGP Capt (retd) Shoaib Dastgir as PTI government changed fifth provincial police chief in September this year.
It is pertinent to note that in September also, a police officer tendered his resignation after Lahore CCPO Umer Sheikh abused him publicly.
Talking to City42, Sub-inspector Fahad Iftikhar Virk alleged that Lahore CCPO Umer Sheikh called him as “son of a donkey” during an official meeting on September 22.
“I could not tolerate him abusing my father. CCPO’s behaviour is unbecoming of his rank as well as being illegal and immoral. I feel humiliated and decide to step down,” said the cop.
It may be recalled that a leaked phone call between Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh, and a woman seeking justice against Lahore’s Raiwind police, went viral on social media on October 20. The woman had called the Lahore CCPO and sought action against the personnel of Raiwind Police who barged in her house, ransacked her property and then took her husband away.
