Investigation by the Sindh Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) confirmed that 10,129 sacks of wheat worth Rs36.62 million have been stolen from two warehouses in Thatta and Sujawal districts.
The ACE, in its investigation report unfolded the facts about wheat theft on such a large scale from Sujawal and Thatta warehouses.
According to the investigative report, 10,129 sacks of wheat were stolen from the food department’s warehouses as a result of officials’ connivance. The report estimated worth of the commodity at Rs36.62 million.
Commenting about the ACE probe, Thatta/Sujawal District Food Controller Nazakat Abbasi claimed that the Food Department had approached the Anti-Corruption Establishment for investigating the wheat theft reported in warehouses in Sujawal and Thatta districts.
The department had sought probe against in-charges of the two warehouses – Food Inspector Muhammad Yousaf Channa and Food Inspector Yasin Shah.
Following wheat theft on such a larger scale, a three member committee was established under the supervision of storage in-charge Nasrullah Chandio.
The ACE report says that 7,662 sacks of wheat were stolen from Thatta godown and 2,467 sacks were stolen from Sujawal warehouse.
