The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, in a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial, has urged the CJP to initiate contempt proceedings and take immediate action against PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz for maligning the apex court judges, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The letter has been penned down by former attorney general Anwar Mansoor Khan.
The CJP has been urged for swift action to save and uphold the respect, integrity and credibility of the superior judiciary.
Mansoor said that he wanted to bring to the knowledge of the CJP the speech of Maryam Nawaz in Sargodha on February 23 wherein she talked against honourable judges of the apex court and leveled allegations with a certain plan. She incited the people against the judiciary.
She, without any proof, leveled accusations against honourable judges and judiciary.
Maryam criticized Justice Ejazul Ahsan and Justice Mazahar Akbar Naqvi, members of a bench hearing a suo motu on elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The purpose to criticize these two judges was to influence the Supreme Court proceedings and create hurdles in dispensation of justice.
Such a severe criticism is considered an attack on freedom of judiciary and judicial system, Mansoor maintained.
He was of the view that a contempt of court proceedings should be initiated against PML-N Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz.
He further said that Justice Mazahar Naqvi and Justice Ejazul Ahsan were part of bench that heard Panama case.
Without any solid proof, using such a foul language against the superior judiciary was unacceptable, he continued.
He hoped that keeping in view the facts the Supreme Court will take action to save and uphold the supremacy of law and constitution and respect and integrity of judiciary.
