Pakistan has slipped by four points on the international Corruption Perceptions Index and stood at 124 in comparison to 120th position in 2019, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The rankings were issued by Transparency International (TI) which also showered loads of praise on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a circular issued said, “Transparency International in its latest report once again appreciates NAB's efforts. NAB welcomes TI report and vow to catch big fishes to justice.
“A total of Rs714 billion were recovered including Rs487 billion in the last three years,” a NAB spokesperson said.
According to the TI report, Pakistan's score is 31 out of 100 and the country is ranked at 124 out of 180 countries and the score has increased four times since 2012.
Transparency International tweeted the new corruption index report and said, “OUT NOW! We analysed 180 countries to see how they scored in the fight against #corruption. Check out your country’s score now.”
Reacting to the report, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb said that the TI report is global proof of the corruption of the Imran Khan government corruption.
“The selected government has failed on every front and only made progress in corruption, commission and theft, Congratulations Imran Sahib,” she further added.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister Dr Shahbaz Gill clarified and claimed,” The PDM and its followers are trying to hide their dirty sins behind Transparency International's report because the report was published in 2019 and the report used the data of 2017, 2018 and 2019 years.”
He said because the report is in English and it will take a few hours to translate into Urdu, so the “Patwari brothers” will have a good fight today. “The atmosphere will be mournful and then there may be distrust among them on this report,” the SAPM claimed.
