Mughal Gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Indian President’s official residence were renamed “Amrit Udyan” and are to be opened publicly on the 31st of January.
The formerly Mughal Gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan have been renamed as Amrit Udyan which literally means "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebrations.
An official statement unveiled that the gardens will remain open till 26th of March, 2023 for the public. It was also stated that they will remain closed on Mondays on account of maintenance and also will remain closed on the 8th of March for Holi.
Indian President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan at the occasion of Udyan Utsav 2023, on Sunday. The President’s Deputy Press Secretary said that "On the occasion of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence as 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', the President of India is pleased to give a common name to the Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens as 'Amrit Udyan'."
Rashtrapati Bhavan is home to a rich variety of gardens. Originally, they included East Lawn, Central Lawn, Long Garden and Circular Garden. During the term of former Presidents Dr A P J Abdul Kalam and Shri Ram Nath Kovind, more gardens were developed, namely, Herbal-I, Herbal-II, Tactile Garden, Bonsai Garden and Arogya Vanam.
The visitors, this year will see specially cultivated tulips of 12 unique varieties in the gardens which are expected to bloom in phases.
This time around, all the gardens including the Herbal Garden, Bonsai Garden, Central Lawn, Long Garden and Circular Garden will remain opened for about two months.
