The United States (US) has temporarily suspended aid to Pakistan for 90 days, affecting 28 major projects across various sectors, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Tuesday.
According to the channel report, the decision comes as part of a broader review of foreign aid programs.
US officials have confirmed the halt in assistance to Pakistan until the reevaluation process is complete.
The suspension impacts governance, economic growth, agriculture, education, and health projects in Pakistan.
Specifically, 11 programs related to governance, 4 each in economic growth, education, and health, and 5 in the agriculture sector have been disrupted.
Additionally, the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation and five projects in the energy sector have also been put on hold.
The suspension of aid to Pakistan mirrors similar actions taken against other countries. US officials have stated that a decision regarding the continuation of these programs will be made after the review process.
According to the media reports, US officials have clarified that nearly all foreign aid programs, including those for Ukraine, Taiwan, and Jordan, have been temporarily suspended for a 90-day period.
The State Department has directed all US diplomatic and consular missions to immediately cease work on aid programs and related activities.
The halt in funding is expected to have significant implications for Pakistan's socio-economic development, with projects aimed at democracy, human rights, and governance also temporarily suspended.
