The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were hit by torrential rain overnight submerging Sector E11. Due to the rising water levels in Nullah Lai which is posing a danger to the residential areas, the Army rescue and relief teams have arrived in the area.

The heavy rain that lashed the twin cities overnight has created a flashflood-like situation as the water lever in Rawalpindi Nullah Lai has raised to 19 feet high. A big flash flood water has entered Rawalpindi raising alarm bells in Gawal Mandi and other low-lying areas situated in the city.

According to the flood control room, the rescue teams have called in the low-lying areas of Rawalpindi. Saidpur received 123mm rain and Golra was lashed with 103mm rain. The water level in Nullah Lai has reached 19 feet high near the New Katarian area and 10 feet near Gawal Mandi inundating the low-lying areas.

However, the spokesperson of WASA said that the water level in Nullah Lai has started receding and it has reached 15 feet near Katarian and Gawal Mandi.

The ISPR in its press release stated that owing to the torrential rains, rising water level in Nullah Lai and damage done in the wake of submerging of Sector E11, the Pak Army rescue and relief teams have arrived to cooperate and provide aid to the civil administration.

The Office of Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad posted a tweet on Wednesday saying that the cloudburst in Islamabad has caused flooding in various areas. Teams are clearing nullahs/roads. Hopefully, we will be able to clear everything in an hour. Everyone is requested to please cooperate and restrict unnecessary movement for the next 2 hours.

He later tweeted that all roads are cleared for traffic in Islamabad.
