The Punjab government has increased the wages of prisoners from Rs 50 to Rs 500 for ordinary inmates and Rs 1000 for the prisoners who make furniture, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to jail authorities, the wages of prisoners working in prisons will be transferred to their accounts.
Jail authorities said that furniture making for private firms has also been started in Lahore, and not less than 20 prisoners will be provided for making furniture daily.
It will be compulsory for firms to train unskilled prisoners within two months, said jail authorities.
Space will be provided to the private firm in the jail, while electricity expenses and other equipment will be provided by the firm itself, said jail authorities.
A pilot project contract has been awarded in Kot Lakhpat Jail, said jail authorities.
