Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday raised a valid question about the lack of research at the universities in Pakistan at a time when the varsities around the world are helping their governments in fighting the coronavirus.
Where are the Pakistani universities, as the varsities in the world are providing a guideline to the governments through leading research and policy papers, he said.
In a tweet, Fawad also questioned why the local universities were silent spectators. “We need to up the game,” he said, urging the vice-chancellors to initiate research.
In an earlier tweet, he had said that the best that could happen to the world was the superpowers like the US and China setting aside their political differences to work for the greater cause of humanity.

“A joint scientific research effort for the cure of pandemic is need of the hour,” he added.
The federal minister is not new to touching the important topics which are otherwise completely ignored in our country.
On Friday, he said the coronavirus pandemic had spread in Pakistan only due to the ignorance of rigid religious circles.
