In a post-match interview, after winning the latest match of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and being the Player of the Match, India’s star batter Virat Kohli took a moment to reflect on the importance of family time, with his wife and their two kids, Vamika and Akaay.
Virat Kohli opened up about the break from cricket and the birth of his second child Akaay.
Kohli was thankful to God for having a unique period where he was away from all the spotlight and experienced normalcy for two months with his family.
Here are the exact words stated by the player:
"I mean, look, when you're completely at ground level, you can say, we were not in the country, we were at a place where people were not recognizing us, just time together as a family, just to feel normal for two months, for me, for us as a family, was a surreal experience. Of course, having two kids, things become totally different from a family perspective. So just the ability to be together, the connections that you make with your older child, it's amazing. I mean, I couldn't have been more grateful to god for the opportunity that I got to spend time with my family and, yeah, just the place that we were in,” opined the dynamic opener.”
Furthermore, Kohli emphasized that his focus has shifted away from personal accolades such as caps or awards. Instead, his primary aim is to support his team in any capacity possible.
"Well, I don't play for caps and all that anymore, to be honest. I mean, it's for me, an opportunity to help my team. That's the only thing that I've given to Indian cricket, to RCB, and that's the promise I can give here. It's not the orange cap, but I'll keep turning up and keep trying my best. That's it," concluded Kohli.
