The Bureau of Statistics Friday released new figures on sugar prices, revealing that the maximum price of sugar in the country remains as high as Rs 180 per kg, contradicting Federal Minister Rana Tanveer's claim that it costs Rs 163 per kg, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the latest report, the average price of sugar across Pakistan stands at Rs 168.80 per kg, with citizens in Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar forced to buy sugar at the highest rates.
The report further stated that while the average price of sugar has decreased by Rs 1.61 per kg over the past week, it still remains well above the Rs 164 per kg retail price announced by Deputy Prime Minister. Last week, the average price was Rs 170.41 per kg, showing only a slight decline.
Despite government claims of stabilizing sugar prices, the data highlights that consumers continue to bear the burden of high costs, with no significant relief in sight.
