PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said May 28 was the day when Pakistan emerged as the first nuclear power in the Muslim world, as the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif displayed a decisive leadership in the face of threats, intimidation and inducements.
“Nuclear power remains [the] linchpin of our national security,” he added in a tweet posted in connection with Youm-e-Takbeer celebrated by the party every year since the nuclear tests were conducted by Pakistan on that day in 1998.
Earlier, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz posted a tweet in which an image of Nawaz Sharif from that day in 1998 was shared with the mountain in Chagi used as a test site set as a background, as she also changed her profile picture.
In another tweet, Maryam shared a short video in which the achievements made during the three tenures of her father as prime minister were summarised.

Youm-e-Takbeer was a reminder of Nawaz Sharif’s story of love for the motherland, which starts with the passion and ends at fake sentences, she said as the video mentioned the government overthrow by Gen Musharraf followed the sentence awarded in the plane hijacking case and the removal in 2017 as well as the events after that.
But, Maryam added, no difficulty, no sacrifice could become a hurdle in his service for the people in the past nor that would be the case in future. She ended her tweet with the slogan of Long Live Pakistan.
