The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has announced that M-TAG Service will remain unavailable for two days from 29 to 30 May 2023 on specific motorways.

According to the details, M-TAG Service will be temporarily unavailable on Islamabad to Peshawar (M1) and Hazara Motorway (E35) due to the upgradation of the electronic tolling system.

However, all commuters can pay the toll in cash during the mentioned dates.

M-Tag Service Made Compulsory

In December 2021, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) made M-Tag essential for motorway travel. According to a tweet by the police, “M-Tag is now mandatory on motorways.” At that time, the authority stated that it was implementing Lahore High Court (LHC) orders with the cooperation of citizens. “As per a decision by LHC, only M-Tag travelers were allowed on the motorways from December 7th, 2021,” the police added.

The decision was taken to reduce the long lines of cars on toll plazas. It will also help reduce air pollution due to these traffic blockades.

 How to Get an M-Tag?

The process of getting an M-Tag for your car is quite easy. You just have to visit the Toll Plaza booth on any motorway and visit the M-Tag issuance booth.

However, you must have your CNIC, Driving License, and Vehicle Registration Book. These documents are necessary for the police to issue M-Tag for your vehicle. The good news is that there are no charges for getting a new M-Tag sticker for your car.

You must put the M-Tag Registration Sticker on the top corner of your car’s windscreen, preferably at the top right corner. It is pertinent to mention that you must put the Sticker inside the windshield, not outside. You can read the important information about M-Tag here.
