The Punjab government has received recommendations to increase stamp duties for affidavits, contracts, cases of divorce, rent and power of attorney by two to 10 times, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
If approved, it will put the burden of over Rs4 billion on the masses annually.
It has been recommended to increase the stamp duty for an affidavit from Rs100 to Rs300, for the sale of an immovable property from Rs1,200 to Rs3,000, and for the contract up to Rs500,000 from Rs1,200 to Rs3,000.
Similarly, a recommendation has been made to increase the duty for cases of divorce from Rs100 to Rs1,000.
