The controversy of Bollywood copying Pakistani songs is not new. Recently, Abrar-ul-Haq’s ‘Nach Punjaban’ made headlines when it was featured as the lead song of the film Jugjugg Jeeyo without his consent, at least, this is what Abrar claimed.
This time, Nazia Hassan’s iconic song ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’ has been recreated for Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming film An Action Hero.
The netizens strongly rejected the songs and expressed that Bollywood has killed another iconic song.
The video, featuring Khurrana and Malaika Arora, dropped on Saturday, and saw the two Bollywood stars grooving to the disco beats of the 1980s hit by Hassan. The song was originally sung for Zeenat Aman’s film Qurbani.
Public Reactions
A number of Twitter users shared a clip from Hassan’s ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’ video and expressed their anger and frustration on another copycat of the iconic song.
One user commented that this was a case of another masterpiece “being copied by Bollywood”. The original will “always remain unmatched”.
One user wanted lyricist Tanishk Bagchi and music producer Bhushan Kumar to be jailed for “destroying” a nostalgic song.
“Zeenat Aman and Nazia Hassan, we failed you,” wrote another fan.
Some saw it as another “murder of an iconic song” and compared it to eating expensive biryani topped with Nutella — a food combination that would make anyone’s skin crawl.
This user wants Bollywood to be done with remixes.
