An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore has adjourned the hearing of the bail petition of PTI social media activist Sanam Javed in a criminal case of attacking a police team outside the Zaman Park residence of PTI Chairman Imran Khan till December 1.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the proceedings unfolded in the presence of ATC Judge Muhammad Arshad Javed, where arguments from both the prosecution and the defense regarding Sanam Javed's bail application were sought.
The legal woes for the PTI social media activist continue to mount as she faces judicial remand in the fifth case registered against her.
Ironically, she was arrested again shortly after being granted bail in a preceding legal matter.
Advocate Shakeel Pasha, representing Sanam Javed emphasized the need for her release amid what he claims are repeated and unjust legal pursuits.
Pasha contended that his client's repeated arrests lacked substantial evidence and requested the court to grant bail.
The public prosecutor contended that Sanam Javed and her fellow activists were accused of throwing petrol bombs at police personnel outside Zaman Park.
He also alleged she along with her accomplices tortured the DIG at Zaman Park and set police vehicles ablaze. The accused are further charged with assaulting officers in the area.
The prosecutor added she made provocative speeches outside Zaman Park and defended herself against an attempt by the police to arrest the PTI chairman.
The chaotic events outside Zaman Park resulted in arrests, including that of Sanam Javed, who is now detained in connection with the Police Race Course Case No. 410/23.
The court, responding to Javaid's bail plea, extended the judicial remand until December 1, allowing for further examination of the evidence.
